The Strathcona Symphony Orchestra is a unique regional orchestra which draws musicians of all ages from the communities of the Comox Valley, Campbell River and surrounding areas.

It was founded by Blaine Waldbauer in 2005 and, despite being told that there were not enough strings to start an orchestra, his tenacity helped him to realize his vision of a rural community orchestra. The SSO is now well established and continues to grow every year.

'We thought that the program was excellent and must have been extremely hard work considering the demands it must have placed on the orchestra. We were also extremely impressed with Pippa's great effort in moving the orchestra forward.'

The SSO is dedicated to the development of a year round orchestra to enrich our communities with a wide variety of classical and contemporary music that spans the centuries and appeals to people of all ages.

The orchestra rehearses every Monday evening from 6:30pm until 8:30pm at Mark Isfeld School in Courtenay, BC. They play two weekends of concerts a year plus other fundraising concerts for local charities.

At this stage auditions are not required but may be requested at the discretion of the Music Director. There is a minimum age of 12 with a two year on instrument requirement. Please contact us if you are interested in joining the SSO.

The SSO also provides small groups to play at functions so please contact us if you are interested in hiring musicians for an event.
